Businesses which can justify the monthly reoccurring charge of a long distance circuit, will experience significantly reduced per minute charges for their domestic long distance usage. For example, businesses which use switched long distance service commonly pay between three and six cents per minute for their outgoing out of state, and incoming out of state toll free (800#) calls. With a long distance t1 circuit however, these companies can reduce these costs to a penny a minute for outgoing out-of-state calls, and 1.2 cents per minute for incoming toll free lines. There is also significant savings for in-state long distance with a long distance T1, however, specifics cannot be provided in this article due varying tariffs on in-state long distance rates, which vary in each state. These tariffs only apply to in-state long distance calls. They do not apply to out of state calls. Each long distance T1 provides 24 phone circuits. Each long distance T1 PRI provides 23 usable voice circuits. The limitation of long distance t1 is that it does not facilitate free local calling. If free local calls are needed, then local voice T1 might be a better option. If the majority of a company's calls are long distance, then integrated local and long distance t1 might be preferable, or a long distance T1 in conjunction with a few POTS (Plain old telephone service) lines.  Modern VPNs

Written by: Dennis Green - Nov 22, 2008

Virtual private networks (VPNs) utilize major advancements in technology to establish secure private communication channels, for the transfer of data, over shared networks such as private intranets or the internet. Currently, the most popular and state-of–the-art virtual private networks are based on MPLS (multiprotocol label switching). MPLS provides any-to-any connectivity over T1 or higher bandwidth. The best MPLS networks are facilitated within the closed systems of specific tier 1 providers. With this scenario, MPLS networks are as secure as point-to-point circuits. With quality of service (QoS), MPLS networks are extremely well suited for transmitting voice, priority files, multiple location audio or videoconferencing, or high quality video transmission. For two location networks, a point-to-point private line continues to be a bit less expensive than a MPLS virtual private network. However, point-to-point lines are not normally managed by providers, so with point-to-point lines, obtaining customer premise equipment, and configuring and maintaining the equipment is the responsibility of the end user. For multiple location networks, or two location networks which you know will increase in number of locations, MPLS can be far more functional, and far less expensive than a network comprised of point-to-point lines. In most cases, full T1 or DS3 MPLS VPNs are provided with all needed hardware, installation, configuration and management of the network by the provider for about the same cost, or just slightly more, per location, than managed internet service. Managed MPLS networks are pretty much turn key for the end user. There are also a variety of options for networking DSL or Cable service as well. As the authorized sales agents for the top 20 telecom providers in the country, we can provide free comparative quotes for completely managed virtual private networks for any locations in the US, regardless of the bandwidth needed at each location. We can also provide quotes for international VPNs (including MPLS options as well).
