Businesses which can justify the monthly reoccurring charge of a long distance circuit, will experience significantly reduced per minute charges for their domestic long distance usage. For example, businesses which use switched long distance service commonly pay between three and six cents per minute for their outgoing out of state, and incoming out of state toll free (800#) calls. With a long distance t1 circuit however, these companies can reduce these costs to a penny a minute for outgoing out-of-state calls, and 1.2 cents per minute for incoming toll free lines. There is also significant savings for in-state long distance with a long distance T1, however, specifics cannot be provided in this article due varying tariffs on in-state long distance rates, which vary in each state. These tariffs only apply to in-state long distance calls. They do not apply to out of state calls. Each long distance T1 provides 24 phone circuits. Each long distance T1 PRI provides 23 usable voice circuits. The limitation of long distance t1 is that it does not facilitate free local calling. T3 or DS3?

In the context of telecommunications, the terms T3 and DS3 are often used synonymously to describe a 45 mbps (megabits per second) circuit. A T3/DS3 is the equivalent of 28 T1s. People who are more technically inclined will often refer to DS3 when they are talking about the configuration of the circuit, and T3 if they are referring to the physical connection which carries the circuit. Most people, however, use both terms interchangeably. T3/DS3 is used for carrying both voice (in the form of data) and data traffic. T3/DS3 is commonly used for larger point-to-point circuits, MPLS (multiprotocol label switching), Virtual Private Networks (VPN), internet traffic, call centers, and videoconferencing.
